Who are the A-Team?

A-Team members are trained professional speakers consisting of persons’ with varying degrees, and/or different types of disabilities. The A-Team came together to offer a school presentation to help raise awareness of disability. They work out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

A-Team development

The A-Team was created in 1991 by Resource Services for Persons with Disabilities (RSPD), Calgary Parks & Recreation when a significant increase in the number of persons with disabilities utilizing public recreation services was noted. This lead to the inception of a summer education and awareness project called the Awareness Team (A-Team).

The A-Team developed into a year long program in January of 1992, offering presentations for both the public and separate school systems.



A-Team experience

For over ten years there has been an increasing demand for the A-Team, and consequently they have delivered thousands of presentations. Today, long-standing members of the A-Team believe that continuing to share their experience is more important than ever, our core values emphasizing that in the 21st century it is respectful to acknowledge "the person first."

A-Team values:

Core A-Team values include integrity, interdependence, patience, respect, creativity, love, and continuing education.

A-Team purpose:

A driving force throughout every A-Team presentation is to become the most influential youth empowerment program today.
